Good afternoon,
A big thank you from Dorchester library for all your support with the Summer Reading Challenge . We were thrilled with the number of children who registered and completed the challenge. It was quite obvious from talking to parents how keen they were for the children to keep reading over the summer. We therefore thought you, and they, might be interested in the Winter Mini Challenge to read three books between now and January 16th 2022. It all takes place online, with puzzles and book ideas. Please click on the link:
However we would also love the children to come in and borrow books and discuss their choices with us. The theme is again ‘Wild World Heroes’ and we will have a display with titles on both the environment & Christmas.
We have also started having school visits at the library and with the Booktime “Time to read” packs now being distributed to Schools for reception class children, we would welcome you to contact us to arrange visits to the library or library staff visiting schools to read the new Booktime book. Please e-mail Dorchester library to arrange this.
We also would love the children and their families to take part in the ‘Let’s Talk’ libraries consultation. We welcome the views of both library users and those who don’t normally use the library. This is the link:

There is a survey for children aged 5-15 as well as a survey for adults.
We wish you all a very Happy & Restful Christmas

NEW Starter Brass Lessons
Would your child like to start learning the trumpet?
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for children in years 3 & 4 from any DASP first schools, to start to learn the trumpet in a small group. The session would run 5-5.30pm on a Wednesday at the Thomas Hardye School (if we have a lot of interest, we may be able to offer an additional session at 5.30 – 6pm).
The cost for the term (10 sessions) would be £55 and would include the hire of a trumpet for the term.
If you are interested in your child taking part in this scheme, please contact Hanna Trevorrow at htrevorrow@thomas-hardye.
Artsreach Event - summer 2021
Each year Artsreach, Dorset’s rural touring arts charity, produces a creative workshop programme for children to take part in during the summer holidays. These events range from arts and crafts to circus skills, dance, filmmaking and more and are available for children aged 3+. The sessions take place in rural communities right across Dorset, and places are subsidised and start from just £3.
Attached to this email is a copy of our workshop programme, and we would be grateful if you could share this with parents and guardians of pupils at your school. We will also have hard copies of the programme available from next week, and hope to arrange delivery of a small bundle to yourselves via our community volunteers.
We thank you in advance for your support.
Best wishes
